Employment Law attorney, Scott Mirsky, led a roundtable discussion for the Association of Language Companies titled, “Roundtable: Exemption, Exemption, Exemption! Can LSCs in California meet the requirements to reap the benefits of the new exemption and avoid the strict ABC test for employee/contractor classification?”
Last month, after extensive lobbying efforts by the language services industry, the California legislature provided some needed relief from the strict ABC Test used for employee/contractor classification. The language services industry was included in the legislation and translation services received a clear exemption from the strict ABC Test. Scott led an open discussion about these requirements and discussed if these requirements can be satisfied by LSCs.
